Reason #14 to attend Mountain-Con:
"Starfleet Academy" classes at the Wasatch Campus
Once again, Mountain-Con is proud to present "Starfleet Academy" classes. These wonderful, humorous classes are presented by a cast of great characters: Deputy Commander of Starfleet Academy "Stoval", the great engineering professor "T'Nea Kelley", Earth's formost expert in planetary history "Lady Victoria", and "Ambassador Indra Ivari" of Andor.
We are once again greatful to Bruce & Patricia Phillips for bringing these classes from Colorado for our enjoyment. (They have been at Starfest for many years.)
Enjoy building paper starships or cities made of index cards in Engineering 101, learn how to survive as a Security recruit, find out exactly how Earth survived the 20th Century, or one of many other courses. Attend all classes offered through Starfleet Academy - Wasatch Campus (i.e. Mountain-Con), and graduate with a certificate...and maybe even a prize.
(Reminder: Pre-sale tickets for an adult, 3-day Mountain-Con VI pass are $40. After August 31st, we will discontinue the pre-sale registration and sell tickets at the door for $45.)

Last week, I said there would be a major guest announcement. In fact, I said this:
Next week's "Reason" will be an announcement "worthy of the gods". Don't miss it, or we'll hunt you down!
So...here it is.
Reason #5 to attend Mountain-Con:
Kevin Sorbo
Kevin will be our major headliner at Mountain-Con this year.
Don't know what Kevin has done? Then you must not have watched much of "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" or "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda".
In addition to playing the title characters of these two shows (Hercules and Captain Dylan Hunt, respectively) Kevin has played several other interesting characters, including the title character in "Kull, the Conqueror" and a preacher-turned-bounty hunter in the recent Western "Avenging Angel", the third-highest rated TV movie in The Hallmark Channel's history. He has also guest starred on several shows including "Just Shoot Me", "Two and a Half Men", "Psych", and "Dharma and Greg".
Kevin Sorbo is also a spokesman for "A World fit for Kids", a non-profit organization that provides gang, drug, and dropout prevention to teens through mentoring programs. Kevin was also named as the spokesman for "The Afterschool Alliance", succeeding Arnold Schwarzenegger. "The Afterschool Alliance" helps to ensure that all children have access to safe, enriching afterschool programs by the year 2010.
For more information on Kevin Sorbo's career, visit his official Web site at: http://www.kevinsorbo.net. You may also wish to visit his page on IMDB here. (Special thanks to these Web sites for most of the information presented in this post.)

Ok, it's time to announce the second reason to attend Mountain-Con 4.
Reason #2 to attend Mountain-Con:
"Brandon Sanderson!"
Who is Brandon Sanderson you say?
Sanderson authored the Mistborn trilogy, which his Web site describes as "A Hybrid fantasy, heist story, kung fu epic".
Brandon has also been chosen to complete Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" book series.
Still don't know who Brandon Sanderson is? Check out his Web site at http://www.brandonsanderson.com for more information on this wonderful author.
Brandon Sanderson will attend Mountain-Con this fall.

I started this as a way to list different conventions. Reply to this post with your convention name, location, dates, etc.
Did anybody attend the World Horror Convention in Salt Lake City this past weekend? What is your opinion of the convention?
We (Mountain-Con, a Celebration of Fandom) were there to both support our fellow convention and to, ahem, drum up interest in our own offering.
